Accessibility
We want inspectorjay to work for everyone who uses it: inspectors in the field, supervisors and county staff, and the contractors and owners who receive its reports.
Standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the standard the US Department of Justice's ADA Title II rule sets for state and local government web content and apps. This covers the inspector app, the admin pages, emailed inspection reports and this site's sign-in pages.
Where we are
inspectorjay partially conforms to WCAG 2.1 AA: most of it conforms, and the known exceptions are listed below. Every release is checked automatically (axe-core scans of every page and app screen, keyboard-only use, pages at 320 pixels wide, reduced motion), and we review new screens by hand. An Accessibility Conformance Report (based on the VPAT® 2.5 WCAG edition) is available from the contact below.
Known limitations
- Maps are visual. Everything a map shows is also given as text: the project list, each photo's coordinates and distance from the site, and the people and sites on the Today page. Map markers can't be reached with a keyboard.
- Photos taken by inspectors are described only by the inspector's note, which may not describe what the photo shows.
- Signatures are drawn with a finger or mouse; anyone who can't draw one can use “Type the name instead”.
- Screen readers on phones: the inspector app has been tested with automated tools and keyboards, but not yet with VoiceOver on iPhone or TalkBack on Android. Please tell us about any problem you find.
Report a problem or ask for another format
If something doesn't work for you, or you need a report in another format, contact your county's inspectorjay administrator. Say which page or screen, what you were trying to do, and what device and assistive technology you use. We aim to reply within five business days.
